What to do right now
These are safety steps only. We do not give repair instructions for gas or electrical work.
Water
- Close the main stopcock. In most flats it is near the front door, in a kitchen cupboard, or in the utility shaft.
- Switch off the electricity only if the consumer unit is dry and you can reach it without stepping through water.
- Move what you can out of the water.
- Take photos for the insurer.
Sparks or a burning smell
Switch off at the consumer unit only if it is safe and dry. Otherwise leave and call 112.
